Our Story

BirdseyBelizaire was born out of combining a life long struggle with a creative passion. Having suffered with both eczema and dermatitis from a very young age, Gemma had always struggles with her skin. As she got older, Gemma suffered with acne and breakouts and although doctors try prescribing medications the treatments would only help for so long before the breakouts would reoccur. 

Her sensitivities to chemicals made it extremely difficult to find skin care that did not irritate her sensitive skin, and suffering with a number of allergies made finding a skin care routine incredible difficult. Having always prefered natural and homeopathic remedies, Gemma along with her mum Kay set out to find natural based cosmetics that alined with their needs and ethos, that could offer some relief.

Shocked at how many cosmetics were using fillers and other cheap ingredients and horrified to learn of the cruelty of animal testing in the industry. Gemma began searching for a brand who held her beliefs and values, that could offer natural cosmetics that were natural, stainable and ethical. 

A curiosity was sparked and Gemma began researching into how to make her own skin care formulations, that eventually lead to Gemma enrolling to become a cosmetic formulator in 2023. Before that, Gemma studied fine art at university, trying a number of crafts from jewellery to soap making. Which lead to candle making, happily combined her love of creativity with her love of home fragrances. For Gemma smells had the ability to bring back feelings and memories from childhood and playing with scents allowed her imagination to explore a new medium. 

An obsession with candles and wax melts was quickly formed through the joy of creating and slowly the idea of having a candle and skin care company began to emerge. With the support and encouragement of her family Gemma, along with her mum Kay, opened their online business in 2021.
