My Story

Hello my loves, 

I’m Gemma the owner, creator and maker behind BirdseyBelizaire, the Home of Self Care! 

Thank you for being here and taking the time to find out more about me and my little business!

If you don’t already know me, please be aware! I’m a chatty one, so grab yourself a cuppa and some bickies, and let’s get into this. 

To be honest everything started after my grandmothers past, I got myself a box and used it to hold some of their things in, perfumes, cardigans, things that smelled like them.

Over time these treasured keepsakes were things to help keep them close and keep their memories alive in my heart and mind. I found that smelling these memento would bring me back to memories of time spent together, holidays, birthdays, trips together as a family. 

I became obsessed with thier scents and began trying to recreate the feeling I had when I smelt them. It took me back to a special time or a place, allowing me to relive that moment by smelling that familiar scent again, bringing back those feelings and memories.

For me, scents held this magical ability, of bringing back childhood memories and emotions, I began allowing my imagination to explore this new way of capturing memories, which lead me to home fragrances.

Candles and wax melts quickly became my obsession, I would try to recreate moments and memories from my past as a way to relive the experience again.

Very quickly the idea of a candle and home fragrance company began to take shape, and with the unwavering support and encouragement of my family, my mum Kay and I launched our online business in 2021. 

My very first collection I launched the shop with was made up entirely of scents that reminded me of people and places from my past. It has since grown into my greatest love and passion, and it's why I named my small business after both my late grandmothers.

BirdseyBelizaire is a dedication to two, truly wonderful women, I took both their maiden names as a way of honouring their memory and with that a business was born. 

Skin Care is my accidentally passion, born from a lifelong journey with skin challenges, sensitive skin and skin allergies. From a very young age, I’ve battled eczema and dermatitis, and as I grew, acne and breakouts became my not-so-fun companions.

Doctors tried their best with medications, but the relief was always temporary, and those pesky breakouts would return. My skin is super sensitive to chemicals, making it a real nightmare to find skincare that doesn’t cause a reaction. Plus, with a bunch of allergies, creating a skincare routine felt like solving an impossible puzzle.

I’ve always been a fan of natural and homeopathic remedies, so my mum, Kay and I teamed up in an effort to discover cosmetics that matched our values and could offer some much-needed relief. 

Determined to find a solution that shared my beliefs and values, I embarked on a quest for natural cosmetics that were sustainable and ethical.

This sparked my curiosity, and I began researching how to make my own skincare formulations, and in 2023, I took the plunge and enrolled to become a cosmetic formulator. 

Self Care has become the overarching theme for BirdseyBelizaire, it is what I call my North Star, guiding me and all the decisions my mum and I make moving forward.

Self care is often seen as a luxury rather than a necessity, but taking care of oneself goes beyond occasional indulgence, it is a crucial practice for maintaining overall wellbeing.

I truly believe self care is vital and I am passionate about making personal care and wellbeing a priority!

It’s been a thrilling ride so far and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next!
